So before you go into this packing list, you should know that I’m a notorious over-packer. Like, bring-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink level of over-packing. This list totally reflects that. I made it for our first family road trip with our 5-month-old, and let’s just say the car was packed like we were moving cross-country. Oh, and yes, it includes Baby Bodysuits (lots of them).

If we were flying or taking a shorter trip, I definitely could’ve cut back. So, take this list with a pinch of salt. Grab what makes sense for your trip based on where you’re going, how long you’ll be there, and how you’re traveling.

Biggest tip? Less is more. Luggage fees can add up fast, and those weight limits are no joke. Plus, the less you pack, the less you’ll have to haul around and keep track of—trust me, that’s a lifesaver when you’re out and about.

Beach Vacation

When you’re hitting the beach, you want your little one to stay comfy and safe from the sun. At five months old, sunscreen isn’t exactly an option for everything, so keeping them covered is a must. I’m all about lightweight, long-sleeve rompers—they keep my baby protected without making her too hot. Beepumpkin has some super cute UV-protective onesies that are perfect for sunny days by the water. They’re not just adorable; they’re made with breathable fabric that’s gentle on your baby’s sensitive skin.

For the ultimate beach day setup, I’ll pair the romper with a soft sun hat (custom kids hats are such a fun option!) to keep her little face shaded and maybe some baby sandals (if she’s walking—if not, no biggie). Throw in a comfy blanket for naps in the shade, and you’re good to go!

Nature Adventures

Pack layers! The weather can change quickly, so having a light jacket, a cozy sweater, and a few pairs of pants is a must. Sturdy shoes are also essential for exploring trails. Don’t forget to pack some comfy booties or soft shoes if you plan on being on uneven terrain. A lightweight baby carrier makes nature walks so much easier (I love using mine to keep her close while I hike). And I always pack a lightweight blanket to lay down when we stop to take in the views.

Comfortable clothes are key. Opt for easy-to-move-in outfits like jumpsuits, rompers, and leggings. Don’t forget a hat to protect your little one from the sun. For this type of outing, I also pack a light jacket in case it gets a little cooler in the morning or evening. Don’t forget sunscreen (even for your baby’s delicate skin!) and a cute sun hat. If you’re lucky enough to get up close to the animals, you’ll want an outfit that stays comfy but still looks adorable for those family photos by the lion enclosure.
